Carolyn Shannon is a violin teacher and freelance performer based in the Bay Area California. Carolyn’s first instrument was piano. She began studying violin with Katy Green in Caldwell, Idaho and played in school orchestra throughout middle school and high school. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music from Northwest Nazarene University, where she coached chamber ensembles and studied under Dr. Jennifer Sullivan. After university, she took a gap year to travel and nanny in Australia and Germany, where she was introduced to busking and had the opportunity to collaborate and perform with international friends. In 2013, Carolyn relocated the the Bay Area where she taught private lessons and general music classes at a music school in San Jose. She began Suzuki teacher training at summer institutes where she has taken courses with Cathryn Lee, Allen Lieb, Charles Krigbaum, and Mark Mutter. In 2017, she joined the faculty at California School of Music and Art where she teaches 5th grade orchestra through the Music for Schools program in the Mountain View School District. Carolyn currently resides in the Bay Area where she performs violin as a freelance musician, plays with local churches, and maintains a private Suzuki Violin Studio. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoys running, swimming, and gardening.
